ABOUT DR. CONSIDINE
Dr. Craig Considine is an award winning professor based out of the Department of Sociology at Rice University, where he has served for eight years. Dr. Considine has written seven books for the field of Islamic studies, including the best-selling book The Humanity of Muhammad – A Christian View, published by Blue Dome Press in 2020. Craig has spoken to dozens of university audiences throughout the years, including at Oxford University, the University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin – the University of Dublin, New York University of Abu Dhabi, Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha, and the International Islamic University of Malaysia.

Craig’s peer-reviewed articles have appeared in journals like Sociology, the flagship journal of the British Sociological Association, and his opinions have appeared regularly in leading news outlets, including in the New York Times, Newsweek, Al Jazeera, Foreign Policy, and the BBC. Craig also has experience in filmmaking, having directed the critically acclaimed documentary film Journey into America, which documents a year-long ethnographic study on Muslim Americans and American identity. His other books include People of the Book – Prophet Muhammad’s Encounters with Christians, published in 2021 by Oxford University Press and Hurst, and Islam, Race, and Pluralism in the Pakistani Diaspora, published by Routledge in 2018.

His next book, to be published by Polity Press in 2023, explores the civilizational interplay between Islam and the West, with a focus on extending the civilizational discussion beyond both the Clash of Civilizations and the Dialogue of Civilizations. He holds a PhD in sociology from Trinity College Dublin – the University of Dublin, an MSc in international relations from Royal Holloway – the University of London, and a BA in International Relations from American University in Washington D.C. He is a Roman Catholic with ancestral roots in County Clare, the Republic of Ireland, and southern Italy. Craig is married to Miriam Santamaria. He has a daughter Clara Bella and another child on the way in February 2023.
