Last week, I was proud to cast my vote in favor of the Inflation Reduction Act -- and I’m even prouder now that President Biden has signed it into law.

This is historic legislation that will lower Virginians’ prescription drug and energy costs, increase access to health care, and tackle climate change -- all of which have had devastating tolls on communities all across Virginia.

The benefits of this bill are truly colossal -- but I wanted to share a few of the highlights with you today:

Lower
Prescription
Drug
Costs:
Finally
Medicare
will
be
able
to
negotiate
drug
prices.
We’ve
also
placed
a
cap
on
out-of-pocket
costs
on
prescription
drugs
for
seniors,
expanded
the
Low-Income
Subsidy
program,
and
improved
access
to
vaccines.

Affordable
Health
Care:
We’re
extending
enhanced
subsidies
to
help
make
health
insurance
more
affordable
for
Virginians
and
Americans.

*
Black
Lung
Benefits:
We’ve
extended
the
Black
Lung
Disability
Trust
Fund
excise
tax
at
a
higher
rate,
providing
more
certainty
for
Virginia
miners,
miner
retirees,
and
their
families
who
rely
on
the
fund
to
access
benefits.

*
Clean
Energy
and
Climate
Provisions:
This
bill
will
tackle
climate
change
by
reducing
carbon
emissions
by
40
percent
by
2030,
while
also
creating
nearly
1
million
jobs
per
year.

*
Tax
Fairness:
We’re
taking
steps
to
ensure
that
large
corporations
and
wealthy
Americans
pay
their
fair
share
in
taxes,
without
increasing
taxes
on
small
businesses
or
families
making
less
than
$400,000
a
year.

And those are just the top lines, folks.

I’m gratified to have worked with so many of my colleagues in the Senate to create a bill that will truly help our constituents and all American families.

And it cannot go without saying: This wouldn’t have been possible without our Democratic Senate majority. (And neither would our recent action on gun violence prevention, our investment in America’s future with the CHIPS and Science Act, our confirmation of the nation’s first Black woman Supreme Court justice, our historic infrastructure package, or the incredible American Rescue Plan!)

I know that future progress hinges on maintaining that majority this November, and I’m ready to do everything I can to make sure we hold onto our Democratic seats in the midterms.
