Recap I voted 'NO' on the so-called "Inflation Reduction" Act on Friday. Inflation has reached a 40-year high, and as a result, Americans are struggling to pay for everyday items, such as gas and groceries. On top of these price hikes, the supply chain remains broken, and the economy is shrinking. In the midst of an economic crisis, we need real leadership from Congress, which means careful stewardship of tax dollars and workable solutions to the problems plaguing our country. Instead, Washington Democrats and the Biden Administration have rammed through legislation to raise taxes and spend even more taxpayer money. This bill is nothing short of a partisan wish list, chock full of reckless provisions like: $80 billion to hire 87,000 new IRS agents that will increase audits on middle and lower-income Americans and small businesses. Over $250 billion in Green New Deal tax spending, and an increase in fees on U.S. oil and gas producers. At least a $136 billion increase in taxes on households who make less than $75,000 a year. An additional $40 billion in increased Medicare Part D costs that will be shifted onto the backs of American taxpayers, and proposed prescription drug price controls that will cause prices for new drugs to be more expensive. To get the economy back on track, we need to put an end to reckless federal spending, unleash American energy production, and remove onerous government regulations that are hamstringing small businesses. As your member of Congress, I am committed to fighting for a strong economy and helping you in any way that I can. Kansas oil and gas producers are a vital resource to our state and country, and it is important that Congress supports legislation that gives them the ability to do their jobs well. During the panel, we discussed what’s next for America's energy policy, as well as the damage that has been done to our energy sector by the Biden Administration's war on fossil fuels. Sadly, the Biden Administration and Washington Democrats continue to wage a ridiculous war on the fossil fuel industry, which is driving up energy costs and crippling our nation’s economy. I will continue fighting for an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy that prioritizes American energy independence, embraces liquid fuels and renewable energy, and doesn’t allow Washington to pick winners and losers. Thank you to KIOGA for hosting me and for their advocacy and support of our Kansas oil and gas producers. Kansas FFA Students Receive American FFA Degree Photo from the Kansas FFA Organization. Congratulations to the 53 members of Kansas FFA who have been named as recipients of the 2022 American FFA Degree! The gold standard American degree is the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization. Students who receive the American Degree exemplify leadership within their chapters and communities and have demonstrated commendable dedication to their agricultural and leadership education. The awards will be presented to these individuals at the National FFA Convention this fall. As a former FFA officer and co-chair of the Congressional FFA Caucus, I am proud of each one of these young leaders for their dedication and hard work. I look forward to seeing what great things they accomplish for the future of agriculture and our country. As the distance from farm to fork grows, farmers' markets play an important role in connecting consumers with products grown in their own communities and help support local farmers and producers. Happy National Farmers Market week to all of our local markets in the Big First District! Did you visit a farmers market in your community last week? What did you purchase? Biden Administration Suspends 'Remain in Mexico' Border Policy In the midst of the still ongoing border crisis, last Monday the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) suspended the Trump-era "Remain in Mexico" policy following a federal court order that settled the legal battle over President Biden's efforts to end it. The policy required certain migrants to stay in Mexico while they waited for their asylum hearings in the United States. It decreased the incentive for many illegal crossings at the southern border and gave Border Patrol a much-needed reprieve from the historic influx of migrants at the border. Now that the policy has been ended, migrants will be allowed to stay in the United States as they wait for their court proceedings, forcing the Border Patrol to stretch already thin resources even further. In June alone, there were 207,416 migrant encounters at the southern border - the fourth consecutive month of MORE THAN 200,000 encounters. The Biden Administration's open-door policies have directly led to the drastic increase of illegal immigration at our southern border and decreased the ability of Border Patrol and ICE officers to keep our country safe.
