| Who doesn’t love those commercials for beach resorts — a couple quietly sipping drinks, basking in the sun, swimming in clear water, kids either smiling off to the side or nowhere to be seen. Good advertising, bad documentation. Vacations rarely offer such tranquility. With kids, the breaks rarely come and the anxiety is alway one potty break or tumble or hungry and tired meltdown away. So many of us hold out hope for that big calm that’s there by the beach or lake or wherever we vacation (other than Disney World, what parents delude themselves into thinking Disney is calm?). Here’s the thing for parents — right now’s the time to find it. Stand up and take a walk, close the door for 5 minutes of meditation, shut your eyes and let go. Make it happen and the stress will stay in check. Wait and, well, the kids will take care of the rest. |
