Team,

Today, I made the decision to vote to pass articles of impeachment out of the House Judiciary Committee. The articles will be voted on by the full House next week and, if they receive a majority vote, will be sent to the Senate where an impeachment trial will be held.

This was not a decision I came to lightly. But after hearing the evidence, the facts are beyond dispute. President Trump abused his office and undermined our national security, all with the goal of soliciting foreign interference in an American election in order to help his re-election campaign.

He has put his own personal, political interests ahead of the country's interest. I believe that this makes him a clear and present danger to both our democracy and our national security. Donald Trump has given us no other choice than to move forward with impeachment.

But Trump isn't scared of an impeachment vote - in fact, he is using it to consolidate support. I've seen his strategy play out first-hand: He attacked my colleagues and me as "radical left haters" on Twitter to stir up his base earlier this week.

This is a sobering moment - after all, not one of us came to Congress to impeach a president. But in our country, no one is above the law, not even the president.

Thank you for all of your support,

-- David
