My parents came to Nevada with an elementary education and a hope and a dream. One generation later, their daughter became Lieutenant Governor.

I’m a first generation American Latina. My father was Argentinian and my mother was from Paraguay. They met and married in Argentina and decided to move to Southern Nevada in 1965 to give me and my siblings a better life. To secure the American dream.

My father worked his way up through Las Vegas casinos, starting as a porter and later becoming a black jack dealer. My mom started at Hudson cleaners before becoming a seamstress at the Las Vegas Hilton.

My parents showed me the value of education. They always told me it was the one investment you could make in yourself that would pay off for life. That’s what inspired me during my own schooling, and also inspired me to become a teacher.

I spent a decade teaching English and Spanish in Clark County schools before becoming the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at Eldorado High School and Principal at Foothill High School.

Now, as Lieutenant Governor, I can be a voice for educators, students, and parents, to help Governor Sisolak move Nevada forward.

Under Steve’s governorship, we made improving our education system a priority. He gave our educators pay increases, directed millions in funding to K-12 schools, and secured funding for 13 news schools – plus we’re revitalizing 33 more!
