Abortion Strategy Roundtable

The 2022 Labor Notes Conference, a gathering of “troublemakers” and labor activists from across the United States and beyond, took place in Chicago during a mild mid-June weekend.  Attendance was a jam-packed whirlwind of panels, workshops, training sessions, and socials. Over 4,000 organizers and activists commingled – including educators, baristas, newsroom workers, Amazon warehouse organizers, and Teamsters.

Labor Notes marked an unforgettable four days of learning, connecting, and building solidarity between wildly diverse groups, and the lessons I learned from comrades across the country will stick with me for years to come. Below, I recount the experiences from Labor Notes, then outline a path forward for Atlanta DSA in light of them. [Read the full article at RedClayComrade.org]

🌹Tonight @ 6PM: Abortion Rights Strategy Roundtable 🌹

Abortion Strategy Roundtable

Republicans are banning and restricting abortion across the country, and Biden is hardly fighting back. Why is this happening when the overwhelming majority of Americans support abortion rights and the Democrats run the federal government? Join us for an Abortion Rights Strategy Roundtable this Thursday August 11th - 6:00 PM at 711 Catherine St. SW to discuss these questions and more!

🎉 Atlanta Wins a City Abortion Fund 🎉

DSA and Logistics Worker Organizing

On Monday August 1st – following a coordinated push from Amplify Georgia, reproductive justice advocates, and on-the-ground community outreach by Atlanta DSA – the Atlanta City Council passed a $300,000 abortion fund resolution. This fund will be allocated toward ARC Southeast, and go towards covering abortion care and logistics costs for those who can't afford it. This victory represents one step towards the larger goal of securing the right to abortion and winning Medicare for All!

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped canvass, gather petition signatures, and do outreach for this campaign! Thanks also to the organizers who attended the Monday City Council meeting for public comment. Watch footage from Monday's meeting here!

To get involved in our abortion rights organizing work, check out atldsa.org/abortion and email [email protected] to attend a weekly Electoral Committee meeting Thursdays at 6:00 PM.

⚖ Read: Fighting Their Court From Below ⚖

Revolutionary Social Democracy Discussion with Author Eric Blanc

The Supreme Court’s last term ended with a batch of extreme right-wing opinions. The Roberts Court has lurched sharply to the right, but the Supreme Court’s fidelity to conservative elites is nothing new. Of all the counter-majoritarian mechanisms in our constitutional system (Senate, Electoral College, etc.), none has protected the minority of the opulent as reliably as the Supreme Court has. The only way to protect our rights is through mass mobilization outside of the legal system.
