DC Health to Provide Limited Walk-up Monkeypox Vaccinations on Fridays for Eligible Residents

Washington, DC – Today, DC Health announced that beginning Friday, August 5, the three DC Health monkeypox clinics will begin offering limited walk-up vaccinations for eligible residents on Fridays, pending vaccine availability. These walk-up appointments will increase vaccine access to individuals who may not have the ability or technology to pre-register online, or for those who may not feel comfortable providing their eligibility information online (whether online or in person, monkeypox related information, including eligibility information is confidential).
On Friday, August 5, walk-up vaccinations will be available from noon until 8 pm, or while supply lasts, at the DC Health monkeypox vaccination clinics located at:
- 3640 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE – Ward 8
- 7530 Georgia Ave NW – Ward 4
- 1900 I St NW – Ward 2
Walk-up vaccinations will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible residents who have not already received a first dose of the monkeypox vaccine. Each site will have 300 doses available per day. Wait times may vary depending on demand. Currently, to be eligible for the monkeypox vaccine, a person must be a District resident with proof of residency, 18 years of age or older, and:
- Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men and have had multiple (more than one) or any anonymous sexual partners in the last 14 days; or
- Transgender women or nonbinary persons assigned male at birth who have sex with men; or
- Sex workers (of any sexual orientation/gender); or
- Staff (of any sexual orientation/gender) at establishments where sexual activity occurs (e.g., bathhouses, saunas, sex clubs)
Proof of residency can include:
- An identification card with a DC address
- A Utility bill or other mail with your name and a DC address
- A current DC lease or mortgage with your name on it
All monkeypox vaccinations are confidential, and pre-registration for monkeypox vaccination appointments will continue to be available by visiting preventmonkeypox.dc.gov. All residents are invited to pre-register for a vaccination appointment, and those who are not currently eligible will be contacted if eligibility changes and appointments are available.

Meet Dr. SaFiya Hoskins!
SaFiya (pronounced SA-FEE-AHH) is the Legislative Director for the Office of Councilmember Trayon White.
Among her responsibilities as Legislative Director, she manages the legislative team, in coordination with Councilmember White, to craft and execute the legislative agenda for the office.
Executing the legislative agenda requires extensive research and collaboration with general counsel to draft and introduce legislation to the Council that meets the needs of all District residents. Legislative priorities include drafting permanent bills and emergency legislation- oftentimes with only a minute's notice.
SaFiya had this say about the legislative process:
"Advancing the Councilmember's legislative priorities requires that I confer with my counterparts in the office of the Council Chairman and 12 councilmembers to garner support and, ultimately, a majority vote in favor of our legislation. I am required to meet with advocates and community members to discuss their legislative priorities."
We asked SaFiya a few questions so you can get to know her. Learn more about SaFiya below:
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Chicago style pizza.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Amistad
Q: What do you love most about Ward 8?
A: I love the overwhelming sense of community and familial love that abides in the Great Ward 8.
Q: What motivates you at work?
A: I love my job. I am motivated by every aspect of what it takes to perform the function of a Legislative Director. Specifically, I am motivated by the privilege and opportunity to work closely with Councilmember Trayon White, Sr., to articulate his legislative priorities through the bills I draft.
I am motivated by the trust I am given to craft legislation that will benefit Ward 8 and the interests of all DC residents. I do not take that trust or responsibility lightly. I am motivated by knowing that a bill I am crafting will become law in the District of Columbia and, if ever a law I have been a part of introducing is amended or even rendered obsolete, for long after I have made my transition from this earth my works will remain.
Q: Are you a morning person or a night owl?
A: I am a 24/7 person.
Q: What’s something you’re proud of?
A: I'm extremely proud of my godson, Darrell Foote, Jr. He is making all the right decisions and doing everything that his parents dreamed and more. Most recently, he completed his master's degree, got promoted at work (earning more money than I was at his age), purchased a beautiful home, and gave me an adorable god-granddaughter, Khadijah Chanel (with his lovely wife Chanel).
I am proud of his maturity and wisdom about life, spirituality, the world, books, and money. He has me addicted to investing! My Godson Darrell is an exceptional and extraordinary young man, I am so proud. He is a priceless treasure, a pure gem.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: My father would always say, "Know your plan, work your plan." Trust me, I have a plan. I'll let you all be surprised.
Q: What else do you want to share about yourself?
A:I am a native Chicagoan. I am happily engaged. I earned all of my degrees from HBCU's Howard University, Jackson State University and the University of the District of Columbia School of Law. I love cats. My cat Assata Elaine Hoskins will be 18 years old in November.
