Friend, with Election Day around the corner, New Politics has been busy supporting all of our campaigns across the country. Here are some things you may have missed this month.

We welcomed our 2022 Summer Intern cohort this month. From the left: Anne, Rohan, Abia, and Josephine. During their internship, they have conducted research on the role of veterans and national service alumni in elected office. In addition, they’ve been working with our fundraising team, Director of Talent Development to create a bipartisan recruitment strategy, and supporting program expansion for New Politics Leadership Academy.

Meet Them Here

Last week, Hill Vets gave our Director of Talent Development Alberto Ramos the opportunity to speak at the veterans conference they held. Alberto spoke about the movement we’re building and how we recruit, train, and support transformational veteran leaders.

ICYMI: New Politics recently launched the New Power Project, an initiative that is uniquely focused on recruiting individuals from underserved and under-represented communities. In July, we hosted a New Power panel, where some of our New Power candidates discussed what called them to serve and how New Power has helped throughout their campaign.

Candidate Highlight

Josey Garcia

Josey Garcia is a retired Air Force veteran running for Texas House District 124. Her sense of duty and a desire to give back to her community are what have motivated her to run for office. Josey spent part of her childhood in the foster care system, therefore, she knows the battles many children and caregivers face. She believes it’s incumbent upon our state officials to fix Child Protective Services to ensure the safety and security of every child in the system with the ultimate goal of finding a forever home.

Having served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Josey has a unique understanding of the district's rich military history and veteran specific issues. She understands the mental health issues these brave men and women battle with every day, which ultimately affect our entire community. Josey has been a constant advocate on these issues.

New Politics

We support outstanding military veterans and national service leaders, alumni of programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, to step up and serve our country again, this time through politics. We were proud to be behind the movement of veterans who ran for office for the first time in 2018, and we have big plans to grow into the future.
