It was a long, sleepless weekend, but it sure feels good to wake up this morning knowing that we passed something that will make a real difference for American seniors, families, and workers — and put our country on the path to being a global leader in the fight to combat climate change and transition to a new clean energy-based economy.

This was no small feat. Because not a single Republican would join us in this cause, we needed every single one of our 50 Senate Democratic votes — plus Vice President Kamala Harris — to pass this bill. And I’ll admit there were moments in the middle of the night on Saturday that I was worried we might not succeed.

In a nutshell, the Inflation Reduction Act is about cutting costs, creating jobs, and dramatically boosting strategic investments in our clean energy future. It also establishes a 15% minimum tax to ensure that big corporations can no longer get away with making massive profits but paying zero taxes.

Medicare recipients will see lower costs for prescription drugs. Millions of American families will see lower health care premiums. It will spur growth in good-paying clean energy jobs. And much more.

This win shows the American people what's possible when you have the votes in the U.S. Senate. That's exactly why we need to go all out in the 2022 elections to increase Democratic seats in the now 50:50 Senate and maintain our majority in the House of Representatives.

The bottom line is: Elections are about choices. And those choices are clearer than ever at this moment. Yesterday, every Democrat supported this important step forward for the country. And every Republican opposed it.

Meanwhile, Republicans around the country are passing extremist laws to outlaw abortion, even in cases of rape and incest, and criminalize doctors who try to save the lives of women experiencing life-threatening medical emergencies.

We need to make sure every Marylander and every American knows what’s at stake this November and gets out to vote.

92 days to Election Day — and we need to make every day count!

Onwards,

Chris
