John,

National Party Leader Christopher Luxon just delivered an excellent speech at our 86th Annual Conference outlining a new policy to reduce benefit dependency among young people and take New Zealand forward. You can watch the speech at his Facebook page <[link removed]>.

New Zealanders are going backwards under Labour and, despite businesses crying out for workers, there are 50,000 more people on the Jobseeker benefit under Labour. Being stuck on welfare fails our young people and it fails taxpayers. National is going to do something about it.

Welfare that Works

A National Government will take a new approach to getting young people off welfare and into work:

- Community providers will be contracted to provide 18–24-year-old Jobseekers with a dedicated Job Coach to help get them into work, with funding linked to keeping young people off welfare.

- Jobseekers will receive more support, with a proper assessment of their barriers to finding work, and an individual job plan to address them.

- Those who fail to follow their plan will face sanctions, such as money management or benefit reductions, but long-term under 25 Jobseekers who get into work and stay off benefit for 12 months will receive a $1000 bonus.

Our National Party team is laser-focused on delivering results and taking New Zealand forward. Today’s announcement is one part of how we’ll do that. You can read more about Welfare that Works here <[link removed]>.
