John –

I was encouraged by yesterday's signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Interim MPD Chief Amelia Huffman and the Unity Community Mediation Team.

The agreement focuses on contentious issues of disagreement between MPD and our community, including use of force, discipline, recruitment, and training.

This is an important step by police leadership and community leaders to work together and create a common understanding of how public safety should work.

This is what our public safety system needs right now -- people who can work together despite differences.

As Majority Leader, I have been working with the Unity Community Mediation Team, and am proud that many of its leaders are supporting my campaign for Hennepin County Attorney. We are committed to working together to make change, because the status quo is not handling rising crime or a legacy of racial injustice.

As Hennepin County Attorney I look forward to building on this agreement to unite communities and restore trust in our public safety system.

New leadership is desperately needed to make all of our public safety system work together, and it is the skillset I've been learning as a political leader for the last 16 years.

This isn't something I can do alone. Add you name now to join our efforts as a community stakeholder. We need you with us to build a strong public safety system.

Sincerely,

Ryan
