Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, Last year, Congress instituted Community Project Funding requests--opportunities for members to make direct funding requests for projects and initiatives that their community needs most. To kick off the August District Work Period, I was proud to visit several recipients of my Community Project Funding requests. Here are some photos from our visits: On Wednesday, I started the morning with the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse to learn more about the $30,000 funding request I was able to submit on their behalf for recovery services, including education, training, and peer recovery support services. As a member of the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force, I am a proud supporter of the great work they do across our state and look forward to supporting more legislation and community initiatives that will put an end to the addiction and mental health crises in America. On Thursday, I visited the Paces Mill/Palisades Park Rehabilitation Project. I am proud that I was able to secure $1 million in funding to help rehabilitate the park and bring more of a national park experience to those who visit. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is such a wonderful part of our community, and I will continue to support efforts to protect and preserve it for generations to come. Later on Thursday, I sat down with DeKalb County Commissioner Robert Patrick and the DeKalb County Transportation Director to discuss the $600,000 I was able to secure for a pedestrian improvement project along Pleasantdale Road. I look forward to seeing ground break on this project soon! This week, I was also honored to visit with officials at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) Scottish Rite as we toured CHOA's medical transportation services and emergency care department. CHOA serves hundreds of thousands of children in our community on an annual basis, and I am so grateful for the critical work that our healthcare workers do to keep young people healthy and safe.
