The Latest from The Lincoln Project
Kansans showed us who can
stop radical Republicans from invading our privacy and curbing our
rights: Voters. It's going to take ALL of us.

Now Hiring
President Biden continues to
help Americans get back to work.
From Axios:
“Employers added a
stunning 528,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate ticked down
to 3.5%, the lowest
level in nearly 50 years, the Labor Department said on
Friday.
Why it matters: It's the fastest pace of jobs growth since
February as the labor market continues to defy fears that the economy
is heading into a recession.
- Economists expected the economy to add roughly 260,000 jobs in
July.
- Job
gains in May and June were a combined 28,000 higher than initially
estimated.
The backdrop:
The data comes at a delicate time for the U.S. economy.
Growth has slowed as the Federal Reserve raises interest rates swiftly
in an attempt to contain soaring inflation.”

The
Breakdown
Last night on The Breakdown
hosts Rick Wilson and Tara Setmayer took the airwaves to discuss
election deniers and what we should expect to see in November 2022 and
further into 2024.

We’re Speaking
We’re all waiting for Trump
to take his much deserved perp walk (or more likely, shuffle), but
when will it happen? We’re Speaking invited legal expert Teri
Kanefield to the show to talk about what we can expect to see in terms
of consequences and when we might see them.

Lunch with Lincoln
Reed Galen and Jeff Timmer
kicked off Lunch with Lincoln this week talking about state primaries.
Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Arizona, Washington and more all held
elections this week. We had some predictions going into them. Watch
the full show to see how things turned out.

A Special 2-Part Podcast
July 31st marked 100 Days
until the November 8, 2022 midterm elections. What can we do with 100
Days? A lot. Reed Galen welcomed back LP senior advisors Jeff Timmer
and Trygve Olson to talk about what the 100 Days should look like.

Right-Wing Extremism Continues To Grow
If you’re like most
Americans, just trying to go to school or work, spend time with your
friends and family, and make it through the day, chances are you
missed the special guest at this week’s Conservative Political Action
Conference in Texas. Alarmingly, Viktor Orbán, the
extreme right-wing authoritarian dictator from Hungary, felt right at
home among American conservatives.
From The Atlantic:
“Today in Dallas,
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave a speech at the annual
Conservative Political Action Conference. You heard that correctly!
The leader of an Indiana-sized European country traveled 5,000 miles
to speak at an American political gathering best known for its fringe
characters and own-the-libs merchandise. If it sounds strange, that’s
because it is. Strange and bad.
What Orbán said was
strange too. He described Republicans and Democrats as at war with
each other, and called on the right to take lessons from him. “We must
find friends and allies in one another. We must coordinate a movement
of our troops because we face the same challenge,” he told the
audience. Coming elections in the U.S. and in Europe “will define the
two fronts in the battle being fought for Western
civilization.”
You might have read
about Orbán already in The Atlantic, or maybe you’ve been avoiding
stories about him because foreign politics can sometimes be difficult
to care about. Or maybe all that autocracy talk just seemed too heavy.
But you should know who Orbán is, and you should know why some on the
American right admire him. Orbán has become a kind of soft autocrat in
Hungary. He’s not known for killing or threatening his political
opponents; instead, he simply changes the rules to cement his
power.”
