Congressman Al Green Attends Harris County 2022 Street Olympics Ceremony

(Houston, TX) - On Friday, August 5, 2022, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:

“I am proud to join Commissioner Ellis today in support of the work Street Olympics does and to celebrate the positive impact it has on many young people across the Greater Houston area. Organizations that invest in our youth, especially disadvantaged youth, are worthy causes whose contributions should be acknowledged and valued. I commend everyone who continues making Street Olympics a success by conferring opportunities to the young people in our communities that incentivize them to lead healthier lives. Putting Houston’s youth first has always been and will always be a worthwhile investment.”

Street Olympics is a nonprofit that conducts free programs year-round to improve the lives of young Houstonians between the ages of 6 - 16. Some of the major activities this program offers to positively stimulate the bodies and minds of youth include swimming lessons, environmental education, as well as chess, track, and basketball. Street Olympics was created in 1986 by the late Harris County Commissioner for Precinct One El Franco Lee. Since then, the mission of this program has been successfully carried out by Lee’s successor and current officeholder Harris County Commissioner for Precinct One Rodney Ellis.
