Congratulations to Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who ran a strong campaign and will be the Democratic nominee for Michigan’s new 11th District. I will support her and work with her and others to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in Oakland County and across Michigan and the United States on November 8.

We came up short in this primary election — but I still couldn’t be more proud of this team, and I couldn’t be more grateful for everything you’ve done.

This has been a truly people-powered campaign — from the over 300 volunteers who knocked on 73,519 doors and the 500 volunteers who made 238,963 calls to every person who sent a postcard, put up a yard sign, chipped in with a donation, and so many more behind the scenes efforts. Together, we locked arms and worked side by side with enthusiasm and grit to engage our communities, answer the tough questions head on and build a multi-racial, working class movement dedicated to creating a more just world. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Unfortunately, I was also the target of a largely Republican-funded campaign set on defeating the movement I represent no matter where I ran. I am humbled by neighbors throughout Oakland County and friends new and old across the country who stepped up to help me fight back until the very last minute.

I will continue to speak out against the corrosive influence of dark money on our democracy.

And until the very last second I’m in office as a House member, I’ll continue pulling every lever I can find to improve the lives of working families. But I won’t stop there.

This campaign was never just about one election. It was never about which person gets to have which title. It’s about the future we’re all building together, and the power we each have in our democracy.

I was an organizer before I got to Congress. I’ve been an organizer inside Congress. And I’m going to be an organizer after I leave Congress. My life’s work has been to fight for justice, no matter my job title, and that won’t stop.

We’re at a moment in history when we need everyone off the sidelines and in the streets fighting for workers rights, abortion rights, racial justice, climate action and all the progress we need.

I will keep up the fight with pride.
