The Right Thing To Do: the Inflation Reduction Act
Last Friday, Congress took a giant step forward in passing a transformational policy toward improving the lives of everyday Americans with the Inflation Reduction Act . It’s not the Build Back Better Act, but it does:
lower healthcare costs
restore fairness in the tax code
lowers the deficit, and
strengthens our economy
It is also an historic agreement that ensures the United States is poised to take decisive action on the climate crisis and transitions our country to more renewable energy with a $369 billion investment.
Amazing! But you know what I like more than this legislation? How it was done.
It was achieved by hard working congress members and senators who rolled up their sleeves and kept working to find a solution. When Biden’s Build Back Better bill stalled, representatives returned to the negotiating table to make important pieces stick… like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act , which delivered necessary funding for critical infrastructure investments from roads and bridges, to flood mitigation projects, and even extending broadband connections.
You know what our congressman did? He went home.
And when more is needed to be done to address our climate crisis, we ask our Representatives to keep fighting. I’m proud to be a member of a party that is constantly looking for opportunities to deliver results. [[link removed]] While the Inflation Reduction Act is now in the Senate’s hands, I expect Democratic leadership in the House to build a coalition of support.
Why? Because it’s the right thing to do.
Listen, we can’t just take our ball and go home when we don’t score, we have to stay and keep fighting until the game is over. And the game is far from over.
If you’re ready to have a Representative who will get things done, send me to Congress. [[link removed]] My door will always be open.
