The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations issued a RFI on June 29th, 2022, to inform DOE's implementation?*Section 40342 Clean Energy Demonstration on Current and Former Mine Land [ [link removed] ]. *The RFI seeks input on six areas of interest (Mine Land Development and Operations, Job Creation Potential and Challenges, Technology Specific Concerns, Mine Land Program Implementation, and Equity, Environmental and Energy Justice Priorities).

*Helpful Resources*: A recent EPA study [ [link removed] ] found approximately 17,750 mine land sites located across 1.5 million acres in the United States, offering deployment opportunities for up to 89 gigawatts of clean electricity. The EPA has created a online tool, the Repowering America's Land Initiative Mapper [ [link removed] ], to help stakeholders find current and former mine lands; this tool may be helpful as stakeholders consider projects which could be developed.
