Weekly Newsletter July 31st, 2022 Miller-Meeks Mailer Friends, Thank you for signing up for my weekly newsletter, where you can find updates on my work in Washington and across the Second District. Visit My Website Debating on the House Floor This week I spoke on the House floor in support of the bipartisan RANSOMWARE Act. This bill would require the Federal Trade Commission to report complaints involving ransomware or other cyber-security related incidents by foreign adversaries that include China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. To watch my remarks click HERE. I additionally spoke in favor of H.R. 3371, Home Health Emergency Access to Telehealth Act . The COVID-19 pandemic ripped kids out of school and isolated them from their peers. During this isolation telehealth was a needed resource for families in rural areas to receive adequate healthcare. That is why I spoke in favor of this bill so families across Iowa and the United States can continue to receive telehealth. To watch my remarks click HERE. Iowans in D.C. It is always great to meet with Iowans while they are in Washington! It truly is my favorite part of serving in Congress. Speaking to residents of the Second District allows me to stay informed of what is going on in their communities and what I can do to help them! This week I met with Iowa Farm Bureau and discussed what Congress can do to ensure that our family farmers across Iowa have the necessary resources to produce bountiful harvests and succeed. Floor Speeches This week, I took time on the floor of the House of Representatives to recognize Regina Catholic High School's softball team and Dr. Michael Welsh of the University of Iowa. This past weekend the Regina Catholic High School's softball team won their fourth 2A championship in eleven years with a 6-4 victory over Wilton Jr-Sr High School. Additionally, Dr. Michael Welsh recently was awarded the 2022 Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine for his discoveries of defects causing cystic fibrosis and his development of medicines that reverse those defects. This bill would investigate the impact of nursing agencies in hospitals throughout the United States, including those in rural areas. Specifically, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) would submit a yearly report to Congress regarding price gouging and payment from health care agencies to ensure that travel nurses receive adequate pay. I also signed on as a cosponsor to Representative Spartz's Resolution on Russian War Crimes. This resolution highlights Russia's war crimes in Ukraine which includes Russian military's use of thermobaric weapons, cluster munitions, and killing of innocent civilians and holds Putin accountable for his actions. Other News This week I also met with Dr. Bob Kadlec to discuss how the United States needs to improve pandemic response so we can better prepare for future pandemics. Additionally, I met with CEO Climate Dialogue about how the Conservative Climate Caucus is working to combat climate change without hurting American jobs and businesses. Children deciding whether to attend college or join the workforce following graduation is a huge decision. That is why I met with ACT CEO, Janet Godwin to discuss how to protect data privacy and workforce development for students after high school.
