Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, This week concluded a very busy summer in Washington. Now, Congress heads back to our districts for the August Work Period, and I look forward to spending the next few weeks hearing directly from friends and neighbors about their concerns and priorities for the future of our community. Here are a few items I'd like to share from this past week: This past Saturday, I was honored to join Mercy Care Chamblee for a back-to-school supply drive and vaccine and health screening event. As a federally qualified health center, Mercy Care serves thousands of the most vulnerable children in our community. It was a privilege to offer a helping hand and encouraging word to our young people and their families as they look forward to the new school year! On Wednesday night, two of my bills were voted out of the House Education and Labor Committee. I am proud to lead these important bills. You can read more about them below: H.R. 7603, the Bipartisan and Bicameral WIC Healthy Beginning Act: this legislation will encourage competition, reduce costs, and improve quality in infant formula by creating a publicly available online database. This is critical given the recent national shortages of infant formula. H.R. 5684, The Bark Act: this bill encourages charitable donations of pet food and supplies to animal shelters by waiving donor liability, encouraging large food retailers to donate surplus food instead of throwing it away. This bill will help protect our furry friends as they await adoption to their forever homes. On Thursday, I voted to send the CHIPS and Science Act to President Biden's desk. This bill will fund American innovation, lower costs for American families, and create 100,000 good-paying jobs by turbocharging domestic production of semiconductors. I look forward to President Biden swiftly signing it into law. As we kick off the August Work Period next week, I encourage you to stay tuned to these updates from my office as we share events and activities. I am eager to spend time with our neighbors talking about the measures I'm working on as I represent our community in Congress.
