Dear Friend,

Last year, photos of border agents on horseback holding long reins who were working to protect the southwest border in Del Rio, Texas, circulated online and in print publications. The photos portrayed the mounted agents using long reins to control their horses, but the reins were misinterpreted as "whips" by President Biden and others in his Administration in order to manufacture an attack on border patrol agents. Before any investigation into the actions of the law enforcement officers was conducted, President Biden promised that the agents in the photos would "pay" and launched political attacks against the officers, similar to those used commonly in movements such as Defund the Police and Abolish ICE. Even after the allegations were debunked by Customs and Border Protection and by the journalist who took the photos, President Biden and those on the Left who supported those false claims refused to retract their statements and refused to apologize to the agents they publicly attacked.

Although they promised a swift investigation, President Biden and his team dragged an investigation out for months before releasing their findings. No evidence to support the accusations that the agents had "strapped" or "whipped" migrants was presented. However, the agents were still punished for minor infractions, including using "denigrating and offensive language" and "a failure to make good decisions."

These infractions appear to be designed to uphold President Biden's promise to make the agents "pay" because they could not punish the agents for any significant wrongdoing. National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd summed it up best when he said:

“The moment [President Biden] made that statement, the moment he said that those agents would pay, the moment he convicted those agents without any evidence, without any investigation, there could be no doubt in anybody's mind that these investigators were going to come back with some sort of charge against the agents."

This is yet another example of the continued attacks from the Left on our law enforcement community.

In response to this report, I introduced legislation that would condemn the actions of President Biden and his Administration and express Congress's support for our law enforcement agents.

However, even though President Biden's attacks on our law enforcement were debunked and as the worst border crisis in our nation continues, House Democrats blocked my resolution to support our border patrol agents last night.

I spoke in favor of supporting our border and law enforcement agents

Below is an excerpt of my speech from the House floor last night urging my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support our law enforcement agents.

“The morale of our border patrol agents remains low due to extreme pressure and long hours exacerbated by the President’s border crisis. The last thing they need is for their elected officials to turn their backs on them or, in cases such as Del Rio, publicly betray them.

“They need to know that their elected officials stand with them, not in opposition to them, to secure our border and end this crisis that is bringing drugs into our country that are endangering the lives of law enforcement agents, American citizens, and the immigrants themselves.

“That’s why this legislation is so important. Congress must continue to express its support for our law enforcement agents and work with them, not against them, to secure our border.”
