Dear Ward 8 Residents,

Today, the Bowser Administration held a press conference encouraging families to complete their student's immunization requirements before returning to school. This call to action is to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. All students must be fully immunized before entering school.

District law and regulations require that schools verify immunization certification for all students as part of enrollment and attendance, including private, parochial and independent schools, to verify student compliance with the immunization requirements ([link removed]) as part of enrollment and attendance.

Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, the COVID-19 vaccine is required for school enrollment and attendance in the District of Columbia for all students who are of an age for which there is a COVID-19 vaccination fully approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This currently applies to students ages 12 and older (see the COVID-19 Vaccination section for more information). For the latest information on the District Government’s response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, school leaders may consult coronavirus.dc.gov and OSSE COVID-19 Guidance and Resources.
