Who I'm supporting for Prime Minister

Dear John,

As you will know, the leadership contest to elect the next leader of the Conservative Party and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is now well underway.

I will be supporting Rishi Sunak.

Rishi has shown that he has what it takes to deliver in government. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he was the architect of the vital furlough, self employed income support and Bounce Back loan schemes.

With his impressive record, I believe he has what it takes to address the cost of living crisis, whilst tackling inflation and growing the economy.

Rightly, the Union is a high priority for Rishi, I believe his leadership will help us push back on those who are constantly calling for another independence referendum.

Local residents are also rightfully concerned about trust in politicians. I am determined to see that change. Like me, Rishi is committed to transparency and honest politics. I believe this attitude will be key to delivering higher quality leadership and reuniting the country. I resigned from Boris Johnson’s Government, as did Rishi, in pursuit of a more honest and transparent politics. Rishi has the experience and integrity capable of leading us to deliver this change.

I want the next Prime Minister to restore trust, rebuild the economy, reunite the country, and win the next election.

Rishi Sunak would be a first class Prime Minister for our country.
