Friend,
Intense heat, severe thunderstorms, flash floods— the climate crisis is raging in New York City and it’s only going to get worse. We must take dramatic action NOW. Instead of meeting the crisis, Mayor Adams is caving to pressure to gut critical climate legislation. Don’t let him. Click here and sign our petition.
Climate heating pollution from gas boilers and furnaces are NYC’s biggest contribution to climate change. Local Law 97 requires large buildings to switch to more earth-friendly forms of heating or face massive fines.
Since the law passed in 2019, Real Estate developers (who have made massive donations to Mayor Adam's re-election campaign) (1) have been lobbying to reduce the fines and weaken the enforcement of Local Law 97. This would take away one of NYC’s strongest tools for lessening our contribution to the climate crisis.
The climate crisis is here and it’s only getting worse. We need our leaders to fight for a safe and healthy planet for us to continue to live on, not give in to shortsighted greed that’s killing us.
Lucas Sanchez, NYCC
P.S. If you’re as scared and angry about climate inaction as we are, join us tomorrow at 11 am at City Hall to hold landlords and Mayor Adams accountable. With a high of only 86 degrees, it may be one of the nicest days we’ll see for a while.
