For the past several years, teachers’ unions across the country have been going on strike to protest stagnated pay, budget cuts, and ballooning class sizes. They are fed up with state legislatures that don’t value the critical work they do and treat education budgets as frivolous spending and school kids as political pawns for negotiating.
The Trump administration has been noticeably silent on these strikes -- probably because Trump campaigned on helping workers but has instead stood by while plants close, company profits soar, and workers’ rights are being torn to shreds by judges he nominated.
Trump even went out of the way to campaign for Matt Bevin, who disparaged the Kentucky teachers when they were on strike and then lost the Kentucky governorship to Democrat Andy Beshear. We want to know what engaged Democratic voters think about this so we can set up our strategy to help workers in the 2020 elections:
