My heart sank when I saw this tweet from Congressman Michael Guest.

Yes, it’s saddening Guest remains laser-focused on maintaining his A+ rating from the NRA rather than proposing or supporting sensible gun control reforms .
But the timing of this tweet angers me. Guest had the gumption to tweet this while new information was announced about the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Teachers who recounted the harrowing attacks in their hallways. Video footage showing a failed response on many levels. Children pleading and fighting for their lives.
Guest isn’t just anti-gun; he’s anti-safety, too. Mississippi has the nation’s highest gun death rate and the shortest life expectancy. These statistics aren’t coincidental. They are harsh realities on the violence in our communities from a lack of common-sense gun control — unnecessary losses that Guest chooses to ignore.

Guest has done everything to keep guns on our streets.
Last week, he voted down H.R. 6538, establishing coordinated alerts for active shooters.
He has refused to renew the assault weapons ban. Since the ban expired in 2004, we’ve seen increased gun violence in schools.
He’s voted against background checks, which could keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals.
