These are horrifying times. If we’ve learned anything over the past year and a half, it’s that we can’t just elect any Democrat to Congress–we need to elect the right kind of Democrats. Representatives who will be strong, unwavering champions for fundamental rights like abortion and marriage equality.

Yesterday, two of Mondaire’s challengers in the Democratic Primary for New York’s 10th District revealed that they will not be strong champions for fundamental rights if elected to the House.

An interview with Mondaire’s primary opponent, conservative Democrat Dan Goldman, revealed that he supports limiting abortion rights to a timeline similar to extreme right-wing “viability” abortion bans.

Another challenger in the race, Councilmember Carlina Rivera, stated to the same publication that she would consider religious exemptions to LGBTQ+ rights.

I know what you’re thinking. What the hell is happening?

Here’s what we know: Mondaire is a pro-choice, pro-equality champion who voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Equality Act in the House. He also courageously introduced legislation to expand the Supreme Court to protect abortion and LGBTQ+ rights from the far-right Supreme Court.

Team, at a time when our fundamental rights are under assault across the country, we need strong progressive champions in Congress and there is no room for folks in Washington who will waver in the fight to protect those rights and defend marginalized communities.
