Friend,
I want to share with you a story from a Virginian brave enough to speak out about her experience.
Jamie Abrams, a law professor at American University Washington College of Law, published an article in NBC News:

In the story, Jamie compares her cancer care journey in Virginia with what it would have been like if she still lived in a state like Kentucky and found herself pregnant while fighting cancer.
“When I was diagnosed with cancer, the last things on my mind were pregnancy, birth control and abortion. Yet nearly all my medical appointments, tests and surgery itself were predicated on controlling reproduction and being able to terminate a pregnancy if needed.”
“I became a person who would need an abortion if pregnant because cancer treatments would compromise a healthy birth and delay needed cancer care.”
—Prof. Jamie Abrams
Her story is a painful reminder of how interconnected reproductive freedom and access to other, critical health care services such as cancer treatment truly are.
“According to Kentucky’s trigger law banning abortion, for example, I would lose all decision-making autonomy and be subject to a doctor’s discretion about whether an abortion was necessary to prevent ‘the substantial risk of death or ‘serious, permanent impairment of a life-sustaining organ.’”
"Is Stage 1 breast cancer enough?"
The notion that we would tell someone with a cancer diagnosis to just move to another state to get appropriate care is wrong. This author could do that, but a lot of people can't.
And the notion that the Supreme Court is telling people to just rely on their state legislature for reproductive rights is almost laughable.
Every single American deserves equal protection under the law -- that’s why the 14th Amendment was passed. But the overturning of Roe v. Wade has put that protection in serious jeopardy.
In order to protect reproductive freedom on the federal level, we need to codify Roe v Wade into law. I want you to know that I am 100% committed to fighting for the right to choose.
Now more than ever, I need you with me. So I’m asking you to add your name to show your support for codifying Roe v. Wade's protections into federal law. [[link removed]]
