Team—
As the second debate of the Democratic presidential primary approaches in just a week, we’re looking forward to hearing more from the candidates on crucial issues of women’s rights, healthcare, and expanding democracy.
And when it comes to reproductive rights, we already know that all of the Democratic presidential candidates identify as pro-choice and support Roe v. Wade.
But in 2019, those values are the floor — not the ceiling. Advocates for reproductive freedom want details about how candidates will take concrete action from the first day of their presidency to undo the harmful policies of the Trump administration and other anti-abortion restrictions.
We’re asking all the democratic presidential candidates to commit to taking these actions:
- Repeal the domestic gag rule
- Repeal the global gag rule
- Prevent health care discrimination against women and LGBTQ+ people; and
- Support the repeal of the Hyde Amendment
Add your name to urge candidates to commit to these actions now!
NARAL Pro-Choice America members are looking for candidates who do more than offer lip-service to reproductive freedom; we want to hear specifics and see candidates step up with concrete plans to protect access to care and guarantee reproductive freedom for all.
Some candidates have released details on how they’ll address reproductive rights already, but we need to encourage all candidates to make the fight for reproductive freedom a leading platform in their campaigns.
There’s no freedom without reproductive freedom, and there’s no guarantee of action without public pressure and concrete plans.
Before the next debate, urge ALL the democratic presidential candidates to commit to reproductive freedom values now!
Thanks for all you do,
Nicole Brener-Schmitz National Political Director, NARAL Pro-Choice America |
