CLU appoints Senior Researcher, Susanna Bohme as Deputy Director
We are pleased to announce that former CLU Senior Researcher, Susanna Bohme is transitioning to the role of Deputy Director. Susanna's research background and strategic campaign experience has been invaluable to the Public Transit Public Good coalition's campaign and CLU's work since she joined us in 2019. We are incredibly proud to share this news, and are excited to see her in a key leadership role within the organization. Congratulations, Susanna!

Massachusetts Senate advances Lucky Amendment 7!
This week, the Public Transit Public Good coalition, riders, transit workers, and allies called on the Legislature to take urgent action to pass a low-income fare provision, and on Governor Baker to sign it into law. We are pleased to announce that the passing of lucky Amendment 7 to S.2989 ([link removed]) has moved us one step closer to a low-income fare for all across the Commonwealth.

We thank Senators Edwards and Crighton, and Senate leadership for championing this popular and urgent policy. However, the fight is not over! Today, we call on the conference committee to ensure a low-income fare in the final version of the bill, and on the Governor to sign the provision into law.

Thank you to the riders, workers, and allies who joined us in calling for a low-income fare. We encourage you to continue taking action by emailing your legislators today to pass a low-income fare measure through the Legislature.

Celebrating the Chelsea community at a benefit concert!
The Greater Boston Labor Council (GBLC) celebrated amazing leaders and workers from the Chelsea community at a family-friendly concert that featured award-winning trumpeter Charlie Sepúlveda. During the event, workers spoke out to condemn wage theft and rallied support around the passage of the Wage Theft Bill (H.4681 ([link removed]) ). This issue impacts hundreds of thousands of workers in Massachusetts annually, as almost $1 billion of wages is stolen in the state each year.

Thank you to all who showed up in support of the Chelsea community and to take action on the urgent wage theft crisis. Your contributions from the concert will make a huge impact and support the work of local social justice organizations like La Colaborativa, Community Action Programs Inter-City Inc, and the Chelsea Black Community Coalition.

BTU reaches a tentative agreement with BPS
On July 14, Boston Teachers Union announced a tentative contract agreement with Boston Public Schools. The agreement includes important progress for inclusion policies, staff training, wage increases, and other essential developments. By expanding support for special education, resources for educators, and adding funding for new positions, the agreement will benefit teachers, students, and staff and create a more equitable school environment. Congratulations to BTU’s members, organizers, negotiators, and community for this important victory.

Chinese Progressive Association’s 45th Anniversary Celebration
Please join us on July 30 to celebrate the Chinese Progressive Association’s (CPA) 45th anniversary at the Josiah Quincy school. The event will feature performances by members of the community and opportunities to recognize CPA’s collective wins over the last few years. After the program, there will be time to chat, connect, and eat together. Masks are strongly recommended while indoors.

Ask your representative to prioritize An Act to improve outdoor and indoor air quality for communities burdened by transportation pollution
Join Clean Water Action in calling on the Legislature to improve outdoor and indoor air quality for communities burdened by transportation pollution. People of color are the most vulnerable to air pollution, and Massachusetts families are at high risk of developing or worsening respiratory illnesses such as asthma. To protect our communities, we need public health legislation, and strict building codes that ensure the air we breathe is free of toxic gas leaks, mold, and other pollutants.

Clean Water Action is working to pass legislation (H.2330 ([link removed]) : An Act to Improve Outdoor and Indoor Air Quality for Communities Burdened by Transportation Pollution), which seeks to improve air quality by including upgrading building codes to prevent the installation of new gas stoves, expanding outdoor air monitoring for black carbon, requiring installation of air filters in existing eligible buildings, and more!
