Team, I wanted to reach out after another busy week in Washington.
The House Judiciary Committee, which I sit on, heard from constitutional scholars this week during the next step of the impeachment inquiry. Their testimony will help us lay the legal groundwork for impeachment. Then, Speaker Pelosi asked the House to proceed with drafting formal articles of impeachment against President Trump.
I agree with the Speaker's decision, and here's why: Donald Trump bribed a foreign power to target his political opponents, then obstructed justice to obscure his wrongdoing from public scrutiny. This is a clear abuse of power that violates his oath of office.
This week's hearings made it clear that the only appropriate remedy for the president's misconduct is the impeachment process that our Founders established.
The House Judiciary Committee will convene again on Monday, where our lawyers, as well as those for the Intelligence Committee, will formally present evidence in the impeachment inquiry.
Democrats will do our duty to the Constitution. We will hold this president accountable.
Thanks for reading, team. It's critical that we all stay informed. Our democracy is on the line, and it's up to us to save it.
