The July 4th mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois was our country’s fourth in less than three months.

This is a staggering amount of violence in our communities — and in each case the shooter used a high-powered gun unnecessary for civilian use.

Assault weapons used to be banned nationwide, but Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004. We’re still living with the deadly consequences of that decision today.

Friends, my bill to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban has the support of over 200 members of Congress, and it’s time we pass it to prevent shootings like the one in Highland Park from continuing to happen.
