EMILY's List started in 1985 with just 25 women asking their friends to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates.

We've been growing ever since: You've just joined a community that is now over five million members strong, and together, we've raised more than $600 million to help our candidates win.

What do we spend it on? Recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls.

The formula works: Since our founding in 1985, we've helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. And we're so proud that nearly 40 percent of the candidates we've helped elect to Congress have been women of color.
