Weekly Newsletter July 10th, 2022 Miller-Meeks Mailer Friends, Thank you for signing up for my weekly newsletter, where you can find updates on my work in Washington and across the Second District. Visit My Website Aiding Our Children As our children return to school next month it is important that we equip them with tools to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Since the beginning of COVID-19 our country, especially our children, have been forced to alter their lives and adapt. Unfortunately, our children’s mental health suffered during and following the pandemic. Child psychiatrists warn that the pandemic may increase suicide risk in children. Doctors and psychiatrists argue that the pandemic has created additional stress and exacerbated the ongoing mental health crisis in teens and other vulnerable groups. Legislative Roundup This week, I joined my colleagues in letters to the International Trade Commission and the CDC regarding high tariffs placed on our local farmers and the 2021 child suicide data. Farmers across the country can see that fertilizer prices are at all all-time high. The supply chain crisis has only worsened the rising prices and our farmers need help. That is why I joined my colleagues in a letter to the International Trade Commission calling for them to repeal tariffs on fertilizer imports from our allies. COVID-19 has taken a toll on our children's mental health. Isolation and the removal of societal norms left kids feeling alone. That is why it is important that the CDC releases the 2021 child suicide data. This data is an effective tool to improve our mental health infrastructure and make sure that our children and schools are equipped with the necessary tools to treat mental illness. 24 County Tour It is always great to meet with Iowans as I travel across the Second District! It truly is my favorite part of serving in Congress. Speaking to as many Iowans as possible allows me to stay informed of what is going on in their communities and what I can do to help them! Recently, I had the chance to join Vermeer's solar roundtable to discuss the increase usage of solar energy in Iowa. I am pleased that Iowa has been on the forefront of solar energy for the past several decades. Solar energy has benefited our manufacturing base and has created jobs in the district. Be sure to follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for more updates. ### Rep.
