Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, This week, I had the honor and privilege of spending time with a variety of leaders in our community to learn more about what is happening right here in our backyard. I wanted to share some updates from my meetings and uplift the great work that is being done to make our community such an incredible place to live, work, and play. On Wednesday I visited the Center for Pan Asian Community Services, Inc. (CPACS) to tour their summer programs. It was wonderful to see so many young people engaged with friends and teachers to enrich their summer learning and stay connected with critical community resources during a time when they are out of school. CPACS fills a vital role supporting low-income families and emergent bilingual children in our community, and I was thrilled as always to see firsthand the great work they are doing. On Thursday, I visited with officials from MARTA and the City of Brookhaven to discuss the $1 million in community project funding I helped secure for the Brookhaven station’s rehabilitation plans and learn more about the City's recent lease agreement to construct their new city hall on the station’s property. These much-needed updates to the MARTA station will enhance public transit in the city, and Brookhaven's new city hall will bring a greater measure of accessibility to the local government. Also on Thursday, I sat down with the Brookhaven Police Department to learn more about their Mental Health Co-Responder Program. This program is designed to embed mental health professionals within the Brookhaven Police Department and connect residents with mental health care when they may be experiencing a crisis. I am so proud of the forward-thinking approach Brookhaven takes when it comes to their police department, and I look forward to celebrating the department's new public safety facility opening later this year. I concluded my district work period visiting a construction site in East Cobb where Garney Construction is conducting a Cobb County water pipe replacement project. Garney is a 100% employee-owned company specializing in the construction of water and wastewater pipelines, treatment facilities, pump stations, and water storage tanks. I am so grateful for their work to bring crucial upgrades to our water infrastructure in Cobb County. It was truly a joy to spend so much time this week visiting with those in our community who are hard at work every day to improve the lives of our families and neighbors. I will return this coming week to Washington, where I will continue advocating for the hopes and the needs of all those in our community that I am privileged to represent in Congress.
