John, when the Democratic Party tells folks to vote, it's missing a big part of the story. AOC is on point here:
We can’t just vote our way out of a broken status quo in November. Because solving the crises of our day will require organizing, fighting, and electing BETTER Democrats — not just the same old Democrats.
Nancy Pelosi supported anti-choice Democrat Henry Cuellar in a primary against pro-choice progressive Justice Democrat Jessica Cisneros. And in the face of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, the Democratic establishment did nothing but tell us to vote. We do vote, but we can’t keep voting for corporate-backed incumbents unwilling to fight for our rights.
It wasn’t just Jessica’s race against Cuellar that showed which side the Democratic establishment is really on. Pelosi and Pres. Biden endorsed corporate Democrat Danny Davis against Justice Democrat Kina Collins, a young Black gun violence prevention organizer from Chicago.
How can the Democratic establishment expect us to fight for a party that tries to stop young progressive women of color from representing the people and not corporate donors in Congress?
Corporate Democrats will throw millions against us, they’ll throw high-powered endorsements against us…they’ll do whatever they can to stop us — even if that means using resources to stop progressive change instead of focusing those critical resources to stop Republicans from taking the majority in Congress.
We’ve seen what can happen when we get outspent by corporate Super PACs with access to unlimited funds. Now, we need to make sure we’re prepared to protect the Squad in their primaries and build up our fundraising for the future.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
