Dear Friends,

I hope everyone across Georgia’s Third District had a safe and happy Independence Day! 246 years ago, on July 4th, 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. This pivotal day signaled the end of the tyrannical rule our founding fathers were subjected to and established a precedent of freedom and justice for all. We are truly blessed to live in the best nation in the world.

Let us never forget the sacrifices of the brave men and women who protect and defend our freedoms every single day. May God bless America, land of the free because of the brave.

Protecting Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage (MA) provides folks with better services, better access to care, and better value for seniors, people with disabilities, and taxpayers. Over 30 million Americans choose MA and seniors consistently award the program with satisfaction rates of 90% or higher. I was proud to recently receive the MA Champion Award on behalf of the Coalition for Medicare Choices for remaining committed to protecting and strengthening the program in Congress.

Border Security is National Security

Since Joe Biden took control of the White House, more than 2.9 MILLION illegal immigrants have been apprehended at our southern border. That number represents more than the population of Chicago, Illinois – the third-largest city in America.

This border crisis falls directly at the feet of this President. In Biden’s first 100 days in office, he issued more than 90 executive actions on immigration, hampering the ability of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to properly address illegal border crossings. In 2021, Biden reduced deportations by roughly 68 percent – the lowest level in 26 years – causing migrants looking to enter our country illegally to take advantage of this administration's weak policies.

What’s even more concerning is that criminal cartel organizations and terrorists are trying to infiltrate the U.S. through our southern border because they know it’s wide open. In Fiscal Year 2022, CBP captured 50 individuals on the Terror Watchlist – which included a man affiliated with ISIS that was arrested for his participation in an alleged plot to assassinate former President George W. Bush. Biden’s refusal to secure the southern border is a massive national security risk.

Last week, the United States Supreme Court ruled that Biden could end the "Remain in Mexico" program – a Trump era policy that requires illegal immigrants who are awaiting asylum claims in the U.S. to stay in Mexico until their cases are adjudicated. Ending this program would only continue to incentivize a surge at our border by migrants who believe they have an open invitation to stay in the U.S. regardless of their immigration status.

Without any real plan, and with overwhelming chaos already taking place, ending this important safeguard will only supercharge Biden's mass release program and continue to endanger every community across America. It is long past time for Biden to stop turning a blind eye to this crisis.

Fall Internship Deadline

My Washington D.C. office and Newnan District Office are currently accepting applications for Congressional internships for Fall 2022. The internship program is open to college students and recent graduates who are interested in learning more about the legislative process and serving our community. This program is a great way for students to broaden their knowledge on how the federal government operates, and many students receive college credit for their service.

The deadline to submit applications is July 15, 2022. For more information and to apply for an internship, click here. I also encourage folks to share this information with any interested college students or recent graduates!
