Indivisibles, 

In the wake of the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, President Biden
plans to nominate an anti-choice lawyer, Chad Meredith, to a lifetime
judicial appointment in Kentucky in a [ [link removed] ]quid pro quo agreement with Mitch
McConnell. 

Yes, you read that right. And no, we can’t believe it either.

This is unacceptable. The decision is completely out of touch with the
American people -- 85% of Americans think abortion should be legal in some
or all circumstances -- and would seat a justice whose views on abortion
would directly harm health outcomes for people who get pregnant. 

Chad Meredith is a member of the Federalist Society, a conservative group
of lawyers, law students, scholars, and more that believes in “reordering
priorities within the legal system to place a premium on individual
liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law.” In other words, rolling
back constitutional rights for marginalized people and making it more
difficult for the federal government to function. As if that’s not bad
enough, during his time as deputy counsel to Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin,
Meredith defended a 2017 Kentucky law that required doctors performing
abortions to first play the sound from the ultrasound while showing and
describing the image to patients. While acting as deputy counsel, he also
supported a series of controversial pardons and commutations at the end of
Governor Bevin’s term, which led to an investigation by the FBI.

If Chad Meredith is seated in Kentucky, his track record shows that
millions of Americans will be harmed for generations. 

Here’s what we’re asking Indivisibles to do right now:

nomination is a slap in the face to the millions of Americans who have
spoken up about bodily autonomy since the reversal of Roe and an
abdication of his duty to represent the American people. Biden can
still choose a different nominee. Let’s make sure he does the right
thing.

confirmation. If Biden decides to go through with it, the Senate must
not confirm this nomination. Tell your senator that Chad Meredith is
unfit for a judicial seat. This is a lifetime appointment. We have one
opportunity to get it right. 

Call now to ensure Kentuckians don’t end up with an anti-choice extremist
on their court for generations. We can fix this today.
