On the last day of serving in the CIA, it is tradition to visit the Wall of Honor. At the stars, we pay homage to those who have given their lives in the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

When exiting the building for the last time, CIA officers then visit the statue of Nathan Hale, located just outside the main entrance. We lay 76 cents at his feet in honor of our freedom and the perpetual quest for independence.

In 1776, Hale was the first American executed by the British for spying for America. His statue portrays what little is known about him. We see Hale’s uplifted chin - his hands and feet bound - in the moments before his execution. He was only 21 years old, yet prepared to sacrifice his life for honor and country. Historically, his last words were “I regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

On Independence Day, I think of early Americans, like Hale, who risked everything for freedom in our country. Now, we are fighting for our freedoms again. We must protect reproductive rights, voting rights, and public schools… and that’s just the beginning.

As a veteran and life-long public servant, this is my code of honor. I have a life-long moral obligation to the oath I took to defend our Constitution. I am committed to serving where and when needed, without reservation. That is the commitment I bring to this campaign for Congress. I will never stop fighting for our rights and freedoms, and opportunities for all. Nathan Hale envisioned a nation with liberty for all. I continue his fight.

I have spent my lifetime putting my country above politics. I am not afraid to take a stand. You can count on me.

Today I ask you to stand up, too. I cannot run this race alone. Can I count on you to make a donation to our campaign? Our country needs us now. Thank you for your support as we begin the final month before our primary election. [[link removed]]
