WHY JULIA MORGAN’S YWCA OAHU IS MORE THAN JUST A BUILDING
When this YWCA’s Honolulu headquarters were built in 1927, people were still
getting used to the idea of women’s bathing suits that didn’t include
full-length stockings. But architect Julia Morgan didn’t care what women wore;
if they wanted a place to swim, she would design it for them.

1799 MANSION ON TWO ACRES IN TRANQUIL, PRIVATE WOODS
This superb historic estate, nestled between Maryland’s Historic Ellicott City
and Historic Catonsville, had been renovated and expanded in the Victorian era
to create the mansion it is today. The building’s stately exterior—complete with
a mansard roof—betrays only a hint of the opulence inside.

CALIFORNIA MUSEUM PIONEERS A NEW MODEL FOR HISTORIC SITES
The entirety of this 2.5-acre property—including a museum, bakery and cafe,
farm-to-table restaurant, event space, and green space—is there for anyone to
enjoy. But this wasn’t always the case at Cooper Molera Adobe, a National Trust
Historic Site.

INSIDE THE RENOVATION OF FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT’S DARWIN MARTIN HOUSE
For 30 years, this residence in Buffalo, New York, was home to local soap
company executive Darwin Martin and his family. For almost as long, the
nonprofit Martin House Restoration Corp. has been diligently reconstructing and
restoring the property.
