This week has been an eventful one. As you know, the Supreme Court handed down its final decision in Dobbs v. Jackson , overturning Roe v. Wade . We’ve known this decision was likely for some time now, but it doesn’t lessen the sting of our new reality. Many Americans haven’t known a world without Roe until now, and the majority of Americans didn’t want it to be overturned. This decision goes against the will of the people. Instead, it’s the result of decades of anti-choice extremists and politicians’ chipping away at our reproductive rights.
This isn’t the end though. With Lizzie in office, we know we have leaders in our corner fighting for our values — including reproductive freedom. Lizzie voted to make Roe law in all 50 states and she’s working to protect access to reproductive care for Texans and Americans everywhere. She’s going to continue that fight for as long as it takes to restore our most fundamental rights.
And right now, the way to do that is to win elections. There is simply no other way to protect, and in states like ours restore, these fundamental rights than to elect people who will do so. We need a pro-choice majority in Congress and in state houses across the country.
Reproductive rights are on the ballot in November, and this team is going to do everything we can to elect pro-choice champions. We have 19 weeks to go.
Progress Made
We did have good news on Friday: The House and Senate passed our country’s first gun-safety reforms in a decade, and now, President Biden has signed them into law.
After Uvalde and so many other mass shootings that have devastated our communities, and the daily gun violence that affects people across the country, action on gun violence was overdue. While there is still much work to do to make our communities safer from gun violence, this is an important moment. And it was the result of so many people working together to advocate for change, including so many on #TeamLizzie.
Eyes on Our Deadline
Lizzie often talks about how much elections matter. The leaders we elect determine how we address the issues that matter to us — or if we can address them at all . From access to affordable health care, including abortion care, to common sense gun-safety policies to keep our communities safe, we need leaders like Lizzie who will fight for the progress we need.
Elections matter, and that’s why this week’s FEC deadline matters. Our campaign team is focused on hitting our quarterly fundraising goal this week. [[link removed]]
We need to be prepared to run a strong campaign so we can send Lizzie back to the House where she can keep fighting for us. We set goals to make sure we have the money to do it: to talk with voters and get them to go to the polls. And we have to meet them to run the campaign we know we need to win.
Your contributions — no matter their size — really do add up. Please consider giving before the end of the day Thursday. [[link removed]]
