Last Friday's decision has been decades in the making, John.

With millions of people losing their rights and their bodily autonomy, we must recognize as a country that the Supreme Court that struck down Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey is a direct product of a generational plot to destroy our democracy and control people's bodies.

For fifty years, Roe v. Wade served as a protection of the liberty and equality of people who can get pregnant. Despite what people may think today, there was initially bipartisan support for Roe . In light of the liberation movement and the advancement of women's position in society, conservative groups birthed the "pro-life" movement to gain more voters and subjugate women – who they perceived as a threat to the family structure.

The anti-abortion movement has only become more sinister and disgusting in the 21st century no doubt thanks to corrupt officials who have latched onto and expanded its platform.

In an article from earlier this year, The Washington Post named Mitch McConnell "the biggest threat to abortion rights in America." Friday's decision confirmed it. In his tenure as Majority Leader of the Senate, McConnell played a significant part in blocking revolutionary policy and selecting a Court that would be guaranteed to overturn Roe .

Whether it was blocking the confirmation of a fully qualified judge under the pretense of fairness, defending and shielding an accused predator, or violating his own precedent to rush a right wing nominee through the process, McConnell and Republicans were resolved to use the dirtiest tactics possible to ensure an anti-abortion majority in the Court.

Despite Democrats fighting for decades to guarantee our most basic human rights, it's evident that this extremist Court is not finished eroding our rights.

We have known for a long time that the conservative justices have had their eyes on overturning Roe , but it goes further than that. In Friday's opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas laid it all out in the open when he called for the Court to revisit the precedents of Griswold v. Connecticut, Lawrence v. Texas, and Obergefell v. Hodges.

Overturning these cases would mean the loss of the right to contraception, the legalized persecution of LGBTQ+ couples, and the end of same-sex marriage. More insidiously, this ruling is a threat to ALL 14th amendment-derived rights, also including issues surrounding slavery, segregation, more women's rights, and even interracial marriage.

While some on the right have said that overturning these rights would be going too far, remember, this was also said about Roe. We also know that Republican lawmakers will do anything to shield the members of the Court from accountability, even when there are clear conflicts and attacks on our Democracy. Ginni Thomas, the wife of Clarence Thomas, was not only AT the "Stop the Steal Rally," but she actively co-conspired with conservative leaders to spread the “Big Lie."

The Treason Caucus and their friends have made it possible for an extremist court to overturn a long-held and established precedent, and if we don't stop them, they will continue to challenge the foundations of this country until we can no longer call ourselves a democracy.

But here’s the thing, we CAN stop them, John. Even though the members of the Supreme Court hold lifetime appointments, we can make a difference by voting in elected officials who WILL stand up to the conservative lobby and defend the people of our democracy.
