The far-right Supreme Court has ended reproductive freedom and put the lives of millions in jeopardy. If we don’t restore balance to this radical 6-3 majority, marriage equality and your right to privacy are next.

We have no choice but to expand the Supreme Court.

Democrats may have the House, the Senate, and the presidency for now — but as long as extreme conservatives hold a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court, Republicans will have the power to block any progress we make and even strike down previous rulings that protect individual rights.

After Republicans stole two Supreme Court seats, Mondaire introduced the Judiciary Act of 2021 , a bill to expand the Supreme Court by four seats so that it more accurately reflects America.

Today, the radical, far-right majority on the Supreme Court imposed their unpopular, legally unsupported view on the American people – overturning Roe v. Wade and ending the constitutional right to an abortion for millions in this country.

This is the culmination of a decades-long assault waged by the Republican Party against reproductive freedom and our democracy.

Make no mistake: the Supreme Court’s decision will have lethal consequences for people who need live-saving abortions and, in particular, will compound cycles of poverty and marginalization for Black and brown people who’ve had their constitutional right to choose stripped away.

This Court is on a rampage. We cannot allow the Court’s 6-3, hyper-partisan majority to continue to chip away at our fundamental rights any longer.

Congress must pass the Judiciary Act of 2021 , my bill with Reps. Jerry Nadler and Hank Johnson and Sen. Ed Markey to add four seats to the Supreme Court in order to restore balance and integrity to the institution.

In light of today’s decision, please sign our petition to tell President Biden and Congress that we MUST expand the Supreme Court and enact other judicial reforms. For me, this is personal. Because it is women like my single mother, who worked multiple jobs just to provide for our family – Black and brown folks, and the poorest in our society – who will suffer most from this devastating decision. That is why, long before today’s decision, I have been leading the fight against the right-wing supermajority that has broken the Court.

This decision is a partisan assault on reproductive freedom and a radical departure from 50 years of settled law. The Supreme Court’s role is to protect fundamental rights, not undermine them when they are at odds with the Justices’ personal beliefs.

Congress has changed the size of the Supreme Court seven times before in our nation’s history. Failure to expand the Court now threatens our entire way of life.

That’s not a risk worth taking.
