Over the course of this campaign, I’ve sent you many emails asking for your support in my run for Congress. But today, I wanted to take a moment and share with you why I am running.

As you know, I am not your typical congressional candidate. I'm openly gay, Latino, and an immigrant. My mom brought me to America at the young age of 5 and put a wealth of opportunity in my hands. We gave up everything in order to have a better life, in order to be American.

Coming from an immigrant background and experience is not always easy in this country, but my mom instilled in me at a very young age to love this country. Love what this country has given me and always give back more.

People often question how I can be so patriotic in the current political climate. Well, the truth is, patriotism isn’t screaming and yelling “America First.” Real patriotism is loving your country so much — that you want to help all of its people.

And that's why I am running for congress. I want to give back to my country and make sure every child, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, or immigration status has the same opportunity I was given at 5 years old. I want them to be able to say they are truly proud to be an American.

So if you want the same, please consider contributing whatever you can afford to my campaign for Congress. We need a strong start to the first FEC deadline of our general election and your support matters more than ever.
