The worst-case scenario is here: Roe v. Wade is gone.

But in the face of this dark reality, I have three words: Hold onto hope.

Do not give into despair. We can still fight back, and we must.

We can’t immediately undo the damage it took Republicans five decades to accomplish, but let’s be clear — we can fight back right now. Roe is on the ballot this November. There are key fights happening right now at the state level where we can make an immediate difference — to expand abortion protections or defeat attempts to restrict access.

In Michigan, there’s a campaign to amend the state’s constitution to affirm every person’s fundamental right to reproductive freedom. It could be a blueprint for many other states trying to affirm abortion protections. So we need to fight to get the amendment on the ballot — and then pass it this November. A Michigan coalition called Reproductive Freedom for All is leading the way.

In Kansas, a measure on the ballot this August would amend the state Constitution to say that it does not protect the right to abortion, overturning a decision by the state Supreme Court. Kansas is an island of access in a part of the country with already very severe restrictions, so this fight has especially high stakes. An organization called Kansans for Constitutional Freedom is fighting to defeat this ballot measure and to preserve reproductive freedom for women in Kansas and neighboring states.

Can you split a donation between Reproductive Freedom for All and Kansans for Constitutional Freedom today? They’re fighting their hearts out with grassroots campaigns on these ballot measures in Michigan and Kansas. Any amount would go a long way in these powerfully important fights.

Here’s the way I see it: This is a way we can channel our anger right now.

I’m downright furious at the very idea that extremists on the Supreme Court think they can force their personal and religious views on the rest of America by rolling back abortion rights. And I’m determined to keep fighting back.

If this decision feels like a personal attack, that’s because it is. Extremists are trying to send us back to the days when women had no control over our own bodies and our own futures. But I’ve got news for them: We still have the power to fight back.

And we’ve got to take the fight to the state level, where the rubber’s hitting the road now that Roe v. Wade’s national protections are gone.

Please pitch in $3 or whatever you can to support Reproductive Freedom for All and Kansans for Constitutional Freedom today. Every donation makes a real difference for these grassroots campaigns to fight for abortion rights in Michigan and Kansas.

And please, take a moment to take care of yourself today and check in on someone else who’s hurting. These attacks are meant to exhaust us. Meant to drain us of our will to fight. But we can’t let them succeed. We truly make each other stronger — so we’ve got to have each other’s backs.

I’m thinking of you and everyone who’s reeling from today’s devastating news.

Elizabeth
