John, like you, we here at Team Ann Marie are absolutely incensed at the news that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade. We hope you are taking the time to take care of yourself and your loved ones as we all process this ruling.

My great grandmother made the difficult decision to terminate some of her pregnancies. Contraception wasn’t accessible and they couldn’t afford a larger family. My great grandmother could well have lost her life having an abortion at a neighbor’s apartment without a doctor’s care. Those circumstances could have left my grandfather and great aunt – her two young children – motherless. But she felt the risk was necessary.

We do not want to return to the days when people have to put their lives at great risk over a private and deeply personal healthcare choice.

While the SCOTUS news is a tragedy for people across the country, I want to remind you that the fight isn’t over.

Abortion, like other healthcare options remains legal and available in Pennsylvania for the time being. Because we have a Democratic governor, and despite Republicans holding the State House and Senate majorities, any bill outlawing abortion in our commonwealth will be vetoed and unable to become law.

But that could all change in November! If Republicans hold the state legislature and win the race for governor. Or if the Republican state legislature majority forces through a state constitutional amendment to avoid the checks and balances of the governor’s veto power.

That’s why I’m fighting so hard to win this race, flip this seat, and win a Democratic majority in the Senate. The balance of the State Senate this year could be the difference between abortion being outlawed or accessible in Pennsylvania.

Holding the governor’s seat is not enough. Lives hang in the balance. We know that abortions can save lives during difficult pregnancies and medical emergencies. We know that doctors are reluctant to employ them where abortion care is severely restricted (even if it’s not banned). And we know that safe abortions ensure that fewer children are left without mothers, and fewer mothers die as a result of child birth.

So, will you join my campaign to defend abortion rights by chipping in whatever you can to protect our right to choose in Pennsylvania? → [link removed]

That means we are going to need every single pro-choice, pro-bodily autonomy vote in place by November to protect this fundamental reproductive freedom.

John, I’ve always believed that a patient's examining room has space only for two people, a person and their doctor. It is beyond alarming that our nation's highest court is poised to violate that privacy and trust – by overturning Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to abortion as we know it – and to rip away our freedom to decide if, when, and how to raise our families.

Now more than ever, we must support those working to provide abortion care and elect champions who will relentlessly fight for reproductive freedom and take bold action to safeguard them. It’s going to take a massive outpouring of grassroots support to stop these attacks on our reproductive freedom.

I will be fighting tirelessly to protect the right to choose, and that will never change. All I can ask is that you join me in that fight. If you stand with me in supporting reproductive freedom, please consider chipping in whatever you can to protect our Democratic majority in Pennsylvania. [link removed]

Fighting with you,
Ann Marie
