Friends, we knew this was coming. But that doesn’t make it any less devastating.

Now that the Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, each state will be allowed to restrict or ban abortion. We’ve already seen GOP-controlled state legislatures grow more brazen with their attacks on reproductive justice in Texas, Ohio, Mississippi, Georgia, and more.

Low-income, rural, women of color, and LGBTQ+ Americans will face the worst consequences of this decision.

Our focus must now turn to Congress.

Only by protecting and expanding our Democratic majorities can we hope to pass federal legislation to codify abortion rights.

I will fight to codify access to abortion care into federal law. The choice of what we do with our bodies is a fundamental right.

I will also fight to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which currently prohibits those reliant on Indian Health Services from accessing abortion services.

My opponent has stated she supports restricting access to reproductive services.

We once again must fight for our right to choose – and more of our civil rights are now at risk.

The ruling by this Court’s majority directly undermines our fundamental right to privacy – the foundation for the landmark decisions that granted us marriage equality, desegregated schools, and interracial marriage.

This court won’t stop at stripping away our reproductive rights – it will continue to trample over every progressive victory we’ve made in the last half-century.
