I’m used to skeptics betting against me. They think that a gay woman from the South can’t win. They think that a woman can’t get elected to Congress in WNC.
If elected in November, I’ll also be the first woman elected to Congress in WNC. I’ll also be the first out Congressperson elected in NC, or the entire South. And that will have happened because folks like you believe in your bones that just because something has not happened yet doesn’t mean it can’t.

You see, I’ve heard “you can’t” too many times to count. I heard it when my wife Meghann and I were organizing for marriage equality across the South. I heard it when I ran for County Commissioner.
But here’s what I know for sure.
You show what’s possible by getting out there and doing the work. That’s how we won marriage equality in the South. And it’s how I’ve been elected, twice so far.
That’s why I am out with our incredible team organizing in every corner of the district, meeting voters exactly where they are, listening to what matters to them, and building from that foundation.
The truth is that we need leaders who understand Western North Carolinians' struggles because they’ve actually lived them. We need leaders who know what it’s like to be written off simply because of who you are and who know we are at our best as a country when we instead build tables where there is room for everyone.
The power of our grassroots team has shown that we have a path to defeating Chuck Edwards and flipping NC-11 blue. And with our FEC deadline coming up at the end of the month, we have to show everyone doubting us that we have the strength to win.
