Our visionary ancestor Octavia Butler declared, “There's no single answer that will solve all of our future problems. There’s no magic bullet. Instead, there are thousands of answers–at least. You can be one of them if you choose to be.”

The 22nd Allied Media Conference kicks off next week!! We’re excited to rejoice in the brilliant organizing of our network as we prepare to convene online and in Detroit to explore how we use media for liberation and the ways in which visionary organizing can decompose oppressive systems to make way for liberated worlds. Here’s a preview of what you’ll experience at AMC2022!
We’re excited to return to some in person content for our community here in Detroit! Read more about how to navigate the in-person component of this year's conference here. ([link removed])

AMC2022 kicks off the weekend on Thursday, June 30th with 8 Network Gatherings and our first full session block, where participants will come together for sessions such as, “From Data Criminalization to Prison Abolition,” “Black Food for Thought: Towards Cultural Sovereignty” and “Visioning a solidarity economy designed by artists,” exploring the creative and visionary tools we need to create the world anew.

FromA green splattered background with a variety of shapes behind a purple diamond shape. The center reads, "Afrofeminist Futures For the World We Want!" and beneath the words are images of the five plenary speakers and their names. The upper left corner reads, "AMC2022 Opening Plenary Live Streamed from Marygrove" and the upper right corner reads, "Thursday, June 30 5-6:30 PM" and has an AMC logo beneath it.] there, we enter into our Opening Plenary, AfroFeministFutures For the World We Want!, a dynamic conversation with Emani Love, Paris Hatcher, Asha Ransby-Sporn and Demita Frazier facilitated by Dr. Moya Bailey to discuss, "If Black women were free, it would mean that everyone else would have to be free since our freedom would necessitate the destruction of all the systems of oppression."

[Image ID: Starry night background with a floral background surrounding a portrait of Tricia Hersey, the Nap Bishop, in front of a black backdrop. Tricia's image emerges from a plethora of flowers, butterflies, crystals and the AMC2022 hands. The very bottom of the image reads, "Opening Ceremony Thus June 30 | 7:00-8:30PM." The top right reads, "Keynote Speaker: Tricia Hersey, Nap Ministry." An AMC symbol sits in the upper left corner. After tapping into the transformative conversation from the plenary, join us for a virtual/live opening ceremony featuring a Keynote speech from Tricia Hersey of the Nap Ministry. Rooted in Detroit’s lineage as Midnight City, the code name for the last stop on the Underground Railroad, guests will be invited to celebrate, heal, and rest our collective imaginations as we journey towards liberation.
Friday, we have a full day of virtual sessions and activities for local participants before our Friday evening plenary, Designing for Transformation in the 21st Century. This plenary cross-pollinates designers, artists, and organizers for a discussion on how to shape, scale, and embody power as we collectively build more liberated futures.

Saturday, join Texas Isa iah, SHAN Wallace, Darryl DeAngelo Terrell, and Bre’ann White, four brilliant, Black, queer Black photographers as they discuss how their work complicates and reimagines our collective notions of Black identity. From creating essential archives of Black queerness to expanding our capacity to imagine, the function of photographers is vast.

And on Sunday, moderator Tawana Petty gathers with visionary leaders Lauren Hood, Malkia Cyril, Myrtle Thompson for Reparations: Repairing Harm in the Age of Mass Surveillance, which will explore the tactics, strategies, and imagination required to make reparations a reality, in Detroit and beyond.

We close out the AMC on Sunday, July 3 at 4:00pm with a ceremony that will ask, "What intergenerational, ancestral, and ecological memories can we unlock together?" Our exploration features the work of Dr. Gloria House, Nandi Comer, TeMate Dance Institute, Cherise Morris, and SUPERCOOLWICKED.
