Breaking the circles of fear: Twenty years on
Wednesday 6 July 2022 | 2pm - 3:30pm
[link removed]

July 2022 marks twenty years since our report, Breaking the circles of fear ([link removed]) , was published. It explored the relationships between mental health services and Black communities in the UK and made recommendations for change in policy and practice to ensure more equitable treatment.

Two decades on, we know that the same issues are still present for people from Black communities. Systemic and structural racism still put people at risk of a disproportionate use of coercion and poorer outcomes from mental health services.

This major event will explore what has happened since 2002 and where we are now.

Confirmed speakers:
Professor Frank Keating (Author of Breaking the circles of fear)
Dr Jacqui Dyer (NHS England’s Mental Health Equalities Adviser)
Chika Akas (Co-producer for the Young Changemakers project)
